Version five was called a "return to wind and water", the theme of the first version, and it was just in time for the domain's two-year anniversary. It is actually another inversion, that of the two tarot suits, Swords and Cups. Swords, traditionally associated with Air, represents action and intellect while Cups, traditionally associated with Water, represents intuition and emotion. The theme was inspired by a thread on Tarot-L that talked about non-standard suit-element pairings, including Swords-Water and Cups-Air. It got me to thinking, once again, about the heart vs. mind contradictions within myself, and the way it seemed each suit could not touch the other's element but merely pass through, unaffected. Thus, the design shows a sword attempting to cut through water and a cup attempting to contain air. |
